What is the future for online prescriptions?
The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), which is being developed and implemented by the Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions (ETP) programme, will allow a patient's prescription to be sent electronically from their GP to a pharmacy. Once fully operational, if a patient wishes to, they may nominate a preferred pharmacy to which their prescriptions can be sent automatically. Over time, dispensers will also be able to submit reimbursement claims electronically to a reimbursement authority.
The Electronic Prescription Management Service (ePMS) is a service offered in conjunction with your doctor. It is designed to create more convenient access to prescription medicines, especially for those patients on repeat prescriptions. This is achieved by making the ordering of prescriptions simple, and by delivering the medicines to your home or place of work free of delivery charge.
In addition to offering benefits to the patient, ePMS will make repeat prescribing more efficient for the GP by removing unnecessary administration from the practice.
How do I take part in ePMS?
In order for a patient to benefit from ePMS, your doctor must have agreed to also take part. ePMS is currently being offered in conjunction with a growing number of doctors around the country. If your doctor is already involved, you may have seen posters advertising ePMS in the practice. If your doctor is involved, simply ask for an ePMS registration form at the reception desk or from your doctor. Complete that form and send it freepost to Day Lewis Online prescription Service. We will then enter you onto the ePMS system. Alternatively, you will soon be able to complete the registration form online.
How does the ePMS service actually work?
Once registered with ePMS, your doctor sends your prescriptions directly to our pharmacy, and we then dispense as usual and deliver the medicines to you. We also send you the list of medicines you can order on repeat if that applies to you. You can talk to the pharmacist at any time by on phone. Should you wish, the pharmacy will contact you to remind you when you need a repeat prescription and order it for you? These medicines will be sent to you once approved by your doctor. There is no delivery charge. You will still need to see your doctor as before for consultations and reviews, but you don't have to visit the surgery to order routine repeat prescriptions.
What are the delivery options for ePMS?
Your prescription can be delivered to your home or any alternative delivery address such as your work.
Is there a delivery cost for ePMS?
No, your prescription is delivered to your chosen location free of charge.
If you still have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
